Today beginning at 12.05pm our 3rd online seminar begins with ‘Choose to Challenge, Reclaiming Our Voice in Civic and public Spaces‘ – Gender, justice and BME women’s rights.

Keynote speaker:

Dr Yassin Brunger

Dr Brunger is a Lecturer in Human Rights Law and Co-Director of the Faculty-wide QUB Gender Network; She is also a Fellow of Senator George J Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security, and Justice. She lectures and supervises Public International Law; International Criminal Law; International Human Rights Law, Transitional Justice, and Gender and Society at both undergraduate and graduate -level.
Dr. Brunger is Co-Coordinator for the Interest Group on Feminism and International Law of the European Society of International Law. She is also a member of the International Feminist Judgments Project, which brings together leading feminist scholars to rewrite significant judgments in public international law.

Panel Members:
Dr Ivanka Antova:

Ivanka is the convenor of the United Against Racism (UAR) branch in Belfast. UAR is an all-Ireland, anti-racism, membership-led organisation with branches across the island. Ivanka works as a researcher in the fields of human rights and disability law’.
Rachel Powell:
Rachel is the Women’s Sector Lobbyist with the Women’s Resource and Development Agency and works to inform and influence the development and implementation of policy affecting women in NI. Rachel also co-ordinates the Women’s Policy Group NI, a platform for women working in policy and advocacy roles in different organisations to share their work and speak with a collective voice on key issues. Rachel has a background in working in human rights, economics, non-profit and peacebuilding organisations. She has a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and a MA in Conflict Transformation and Social Justice from Queen’s University Belfast and a Postgraduate Professional Diploma in Gender and Transition from Ulster University.
Bethany Moore
Bethany is a 22 year old reproductive justice activist. She is in her final year of studying law at Queen’s University Belfast, as well as being a prominent member of Alliance for Choice, Project
Choice and Lucht Cabhrach. Bethany has been involved in the movement for over 3 years. She has experience organising, lobbying and has canvased for the Repeal and Decriminalisation campaigns. Within the past year, Bethany has also trained as an abortion doula in consideration of Northern Ireland’s abortion restrictions.
Alexis Ifeyinwa Ekwueme
Alexis Ifeyinwa Ekwueme has Bsc. Mass Communication from University of Nigeria, Nsukka and other Courses since coming to NI. Had worked as a teacher, Health Care Assistant and Team leader Support service. Currently working in the Community.

Guest Speaker:

Danielle Shields
Danielle Shields currently works for the Housing Executive in the Housing Services Division, in the Community Cohesion/ Community Involvement Team as a Community Involvement Officer. Her role is to implement the Community Cohesion and Community Involvement Strategies and policies. She works alongside her colleagues in providing a first class service to the communities they serve. She also works in partnership with colleagues in Supporting Communities, the Rural Residents Forum, Disability Action Northern Ireland (DANI), the Strategic Cohesion Forum and Northern Ireland Youth Forum (NIYF); In order to hear their ‘voices’ and provide the mechanism, to challenge and lobby the
Housing Executive on behalf of their communities.”
