Anti-Racism School Award is part of the North West Migrants Forum & “Advancing Race Equality Awards” launched in June 2021 to recognise the outstanding work being done within our communities to tackle racial inequalities, advance peace and racial justice in Northern Ireland.
A unique opportunity for schools to proactively demonstrate their commitment to tackling racism by challenging racist behaviours and negative attitudes towards minority ethnic people.

This Category recognizes schools that have demonstrated, More than Words, A Zero – Tolerance Approach to Prejudice, racial bullying and racism in Schools by improving racial literacy / anti-racism education and by promoting safety and wellbeing for black and minority ethnic pupils, students, staff, parents, carers, and those in the community.

This category recognizes teachers who takes concrete steps to eliminate or reduce incidents of racial bullying and harassment of ethnic minority pupils in school. Awards also recognizes teachers who demonstrate commitment to challenging, educating, and building confidence to address racial bullying in different situation i.e online and offline. Recognises teachers who acts as a role model or ally in championing respect for difference and the advancement of the racial equality in schools and education setting. Award also recognizes teachers who goes above and beyond expectations engaging pupils/students, parents and colleagues to change attitudes, behavior and culture to address, racial bias and structural racism in education.

Antiracism Artwork Competition

Students can participate in this competition to be considered for:

Anti-Bullying Ambassador of the year award

Anti-Racism Ambassador of the year award 

Create a piece of art i.e. poster, t-shirt, spoken words (poem) or video with an anti-racism or anti-bullying theme. Your work should demonstrate your commitment to challenging racist behaviour, attitudes and racial bullying.

Entry Rules

– Group entries are permitted but limited to a maximum number of 6 young people per group.
– Posters must not exceed A3 size ( 297 x 420mm)
– T shirts: you will need to design both front and back side of the tshirt.
– If you wish to design a tshirt, see the template provided for ideas – click here.
– You can also produce a Video/Film. This should be maximum 5 minutes.
– You can ask your teacher or parents to help you.

All nominations will be judged by a panel of young people committed to anti-racism and anti-bullying work.

Venue To Be Announced

Waterfoot Hotel, Caw Roundabout, Clooney Road, Londonderry BT47 6TB.

Shortlisted entries will be notified and asked to agree in writing to be on the Top 10 list. You may be asked to write a brief outline about your artwork.
A panel of young people select the winning entries and winners will be announced at the
Advancing Race Equality Awards Ceremony on 22nd September 2022 in Derry.

Nominee Agreement 2022

Should any nominee wish to be withdrawn from the nomination process, they are able to do so at any time by contacting NWMF. Notification must be received in writing by e-mail [email protected] or post – 10 Fountain Street, Derry/Londonderry, BT48 6QX.
Anyone found to be behaving in a manner that is deemed detrimental to other guests at NWMF Advancing Race Equality Awards Ceremony will be immediately escorted off site, nomination withdrawn, and disqualification will be applied to re-entering future awards.

By virtue of accepting your nomination, you confirm that you are available to attend the 2022 NWMF Advancing Race Equality Awards Ceremony on 22nd September 2022 . Any tickets purchased or reserved via invoice within 4 weeks of the event date are non-refundable.
By virtue of accepting your nomination and by confirming your attendance at the ceremony you irrevocably consent to having the use of your image on any marketing material created by NWMF Advancing Race Equality Awards.
